Column Schema

CONTRACTYEAR

Billing contract year

SQL Type: NUMBER(4) Polars Type: pl.UInt16

This column is mandatory, and a primary key.

Example: 2026

REGIONID

Region identifier

Warning

Unlike most tables, this column contains "NEM" as a region ID, referring to the sum of the per-region values for the same time interval.

The SQL type is VARCHAR(20). This is actually a factor/enum, with values:

  • QLD1

  • NSW1

  • VIC1

  • SA1

  • TAS1

  • NEM

This column is mandatory, and a primary key.

SETTLEMENTDATE

Settlement Date (Calendar)

SQL Type: DATE Polars Type: pl.Date()

This column is mandatory, and a primary key.

Example: 2026/08/23 00:00:00

Note that AEMO represents dates as datetimes with a midnight time component.

WEEKNO

Billing week no

Warning

There may be 53 weeks in a year, depending on how weeks align to the year start/end.

This column is mandatory, and a primary key.

BILLRUNNO

Billing run no

This column is mandatory (but not a primary key).

GENERATOREMISSIONS

Total generator emissions for region (Co2-e)

This column is not mandatory.

INTENSITYINDEX

Carbon Dioxide Intensity index for region (CO2-e/MWh)

Total sent out energy for region (MWh)

Polars

Casting is enums, categoricals etc is not essential, but may speed up parsing. Swapping int for pl.UInt16, pl.Int32 would also speed up parsing. However some of the datatypes are inferred, so they may be wrong.

This code deduplicates for you. Deduplication is normally only required across multiple months.

This code assumes that all columns are present, which may not be true for older files.

The earliest available data is month 1 of 2015. The most recent available data is month 9 of 2026.

Each year of data is approximately 69 KB when zipped, 689 KB as unzipped CSV.
