PREDISPATCHCONSTRAINT

PREDISPATCHCONSTRAINT sets out constraints that are binding in each predispatch run and interconnector constraints (whether binding or not). Only binding and interconnector constraints are reported. Binding contracts have marginal value greater than $0. Interconnector constraints are listed so RHS values can be reported for ST PASA. Constraint solutions only report fixed loading /MR constraints on the next day.

PREDISPATCHCONSTRAINT data is confidential on the day of creation, and public to all participants after the end of the market day.

Source

PREDISPATCHCONSTRAINT updates with every thirty-minute predispatch run.

Note

The PERIODID columns in tables PREDISPATCHCONSTRAINT and PREDISPATCH_FCAS_REQ have no consistent relationship with the other PERIODID values in the other tables in the PRE-DISPATCH package (such as PREDISPATCHPRICE). AEMO and many Participants appreciate the data model is inconsistent, but the cost of changing existing systems has been judged as being unjustifiable. An additional field DATETIME was added to allow joins between these data sets.

Column Schema

CONSTRAINTID

Generic constraint identifier

SQL Type: VARCHAR2(20) Polars Type: pl.Categorical

This column is mandatory, and a primary key.

Examples:

  • #BBATTERY1_E1
  • #BBATTERY1_E2
  • #BRAEMAR1_E
  • #CLRKCWF1_E1
  • #CLRKCWF2_E1
  • #COHUNSF1_E1
  • #ERB02_E1
  • #ERB02_E2
  • #GREENB1_E1
  • #GREENB1_E2

DATETIME

Period date and time

SQL Type: DATE Polars Type: pl.Datetime()

This column is mandatory, and a primary key.

Example: 2026/09/01 04:30:00

DUID

DUID to which the Constraint is confidential. Null denotes non-confidential

Warning

This column may contain funny characters such as / (slash) or # (hash). This may break hive-style partitioning.

Warning

In the CSV files, this column actually has header CONFIDENTIAL_TO, not DUID. In a SQL database, this should appear as DUID

For more information, see the dedicated documentation page.

SQL Type: VARCHAR2(20) Polars Type: pl.Categorical

This column is not mandatory.

Examples:

  • ASTHYD1
  • BBATTERY1
  • BLOWERNG
  • BODWF1
  • BRAEMAR1
  • BRDDBES1
  • BRDDSF01
  • BUNGAMB1
  • BUSF1
  • CGBESS01

GENCONID_EFFECTIVEDATE

Effective date of the Generic Constraint (ConstraintID). This field is used to track the version of this generic constraint applied in this dispatch interval

SQL Type: DATE Polars Type: pl.Date()

This column is not mandatory.

Example: 2012/07/04 00:00:00

Note that AEMO represents dates as datetimes with a midnight time component.

GENCONID_VERSIONNO

Version number of the Generic Constraint (ConstraintID). This field is used to track the version of this generic constraint applied in this dispatch interval

SQL Type: NUMBER(22,0) Polars Type: pl.Int128

This column is not mandatory.

Examples: 1, 2

INTERVENTION

Flag to indicate if this result set was sourced from the pricing run (INTERVENTION=0) or the physical run (INTERVENTION=1). In the event that there is not intervention in the market, both pricing and physical runs correspond to INTERVENTION=0

Warning

Unlike most tables with an INTERVENTION column, INTERVENTION is not a primary key of PREDISPATCHCONSTRAINT.

For more information, see the dedicated documentation page.

SQL Type: NUMBER(2,0) Polars Type: pl.Boolean

This column is not mandatory.

Example: 0

LASTCHANGED

Last date and time record changed

For more information, see the dedicated documentation page.

SQL Type: DATE Polars Type: pl.Datetime()

This column is not mandatory.

Example: 2026/09/01 04:02:00

LHS

Aggregation of the constraints LHS term solution values

SQL Type: NUMBER(15,5) Polars Type: pl.Float64

This column is not mandatory.

Examples: -1.19891, 1.95052, 0, 1087

MARGINALVALUE

Marginal value of violated constraint

SQL Type: NUMBER(15,5) Polars Type: pl.Float64

This column is not mandatory.

Examples: -4.42378, 0.01, 0, 23202.58808

PERIODID

Unique period identifier, in the format yyyymmddpp. The period (pp) is 01 to 48, with 01 corresponding to the half-hour ending at 04:30am.

SQL Type: VARCHAR2(20) Polars Type: str

This column is not mandatory.

Example: 2026090101

PREDISPATCHSEQNO

Unique identifier of predispatch run in the form YYYYMMDDPP with 01 at 04:30

SQL Type: VARCHAR2(20) Polars Type: str

This column is not mandatory.

Example: 2026090101

RHS

RHS value used.

SQL Type: NUMBER(15,5) Polars Type: pl.Float64

This column is not mandatory.

Examples: -15.00029, 0.0001, 0, 34264

RUNNO

SPD Predispatch run no, typically 1. It increments if the case is re-run.

SQL Type: NUMBER(3,0) Polars Type: pl.UInt16

This column is not mandatory.

Example: 1

VIOLATIONDEGREE

Degree of constraint violation

SQL Type: NUMBER(15,5) Polars Type: pl.Float64

This column is not mandatory.

Example: 0

New Data Timing

Every 30 minutes

Code Examples

Polars

Casting is enums, categoricals etc is not essential, but may speed up parsing. Swapping int for pl.UInt16, pl.Int32 would also speed up parsing. However some of the datatypes are inferred, so they may be wrong.

This code deduplicates for you. Deduplication is normally only required across multiple months.

This code assumes that all columns are present, which may not be true for older files.

Availability

Visibility: Private & Public Next-Day

This table is in the public monthly MMSDM archive.

I have collated the list of all those files into one place, in this CSV metadata file. (Columns year, month, url, compressed_size in bytes).

Tip

There are multiple files per month, because this is such a large table.

The earliest available data is month 1 of 2015. The most recent available data is month 9 of 2026.

Every month in between has at least one file.

Data Size

Each year of data is approximately 318 MB when zipped, 3 GB as unzipped CSV.

Deduplication and PDR Loader Configuration

The primary keys are:

The transaction type is "UPDATE-INSERT", which means that you will likely see duplicate data with different values.
